personal note from darshana

Hello

Welcome to the first
Fruition Health Newsletter!

I am so excited to start this ezine and I hope you will enjoy every word, health tip and recipe.

I know that eating well and staying healthy can feel stressful at times. Being someone who thought she was WAY healthy yet used to suffer from painful periods, constipation, emotional eating and despised cooking, I can't believe how far I have come in the last 10 years of focusing on my health. Now I can say that these health concerns are behind me.

I'm creating this newsletter to help support you to find simple solutions for your healthy lifestyle! Each month the health tip will give you one simple guideline to try on for that month. Just think about it. After 12 months your whole relationship with food and your body could transform!

The health tip will be supported by a delicious recipe.

But you might not believe it's all true. Therefore we have also added one of our client's testimonials. And you don't want to miss out on our upcoming events.

So stay tuned each month for the Fruition Health News.

We look forward to hearing from you!

health tip of the month

BRING FOOD TO THE FRONT BURNER

How many of us put work, money, and the to do list first, before we think of what we are going to eat each day. Or even if you do think of what you want to eat it can feel like a chore or another thing on the to do list ...

Eating should be enjoyable and fun! And so should cooking, preparing and shopping for food.

This month is I want you to focus on bringing food to the front burner. That means you need to think about it, plan ahead and actually schedule it into your life.

When clients first come to see us at Fruition they tell us that they skip breakfast, work through their lunch breaks, eat at the desk at work, go to the gym or yoga after work and then eat a bowl of cereal for dinner or don't eat at all. Some people are afraid of putting attention on their meals because of emotions or fear of getting fat. We all have our version of this. Right?

This month let's see if we can move through and try and get into the routine of putting meal times in the forefront of our minds.

Think about it - if you had a deadline for work or were planning a party you wouldn't just let it happen and not plan head. Imagine if you just showed up at work the day the project was due and just tried to wing it or if you were planning a party and didn't think about the environment, who to invite or the food. NO WAY – you would plan ahead. You would want to give the best presentation at work or a killer party!

Why should your body be any different?

I guarantee that putting attention into when, what and how we are going to eat will change. Instead of being left to whatever food is available, you are committing to putting high quality food into your body. You probably won't eat as many snacks, your moods will even out, health concerns will clear up. There are endless possibilities!

Here's the exercise:

Plan out when and what you are going to eat for your meals.
Just take one day at a time.

Here are some questions to help guide you:

Do you need to stock up on foods in the house so you can prepare meals ahead?
Do you need to get familiar with healthy restaurants in your neighborhood and near the work place so you have better options?
What time do you want to commit to eating? (morning, mid day and evening…. And maybe one or two in-between if you are a fast burner)
What can your prepare ahead of time? (For example: snacks, prepare meals in the evening and bring for lunch, use leftovers for breakfast)

I really want to know how its going.

  recipe of the month

Everyone loves sweet and creamy foods. Think about it- dark creamy chocolate…

Well this sweet recipe is a great substitute for those luscious decadent cravings. It can be used for snack, a starter or even a meal. Try it. It's super simple, takes about 5 minutes to prepare and 10 minutes to cook. In 15 minutes you can be sitting down to enjoy this delicious soup.

Yam & Coconut Milk Soup

4 medium yams, peeled & cut in chunks

1 can coconut milk (regular, not light)

2 cups vegetable stock, or water

1 teaspoon curry paste, Thai, green (optional)

1 tablespoon lime juice (optional)

Place chunked yams into pot with can of coconut milk and water or vegetable stock.

Let simmer until the yams are soft.

Process yams and coconut milk in blender or food processor to desired consistency.

At this point, the soup is delicious the way it is!

OPTIONAL: Add the curry paste for a little kick. And, to bring out all the flavors, squeeze a bit of fresh lime juice.

Use other spices – be creative!

  client testimonial of the month

"The Fruition Health Program was one of the best things I have ever done for myself! (and for my husband). Darshana is a very talented teacher who brings insight, skills, compassion and spirituality to the kitchen. This holistic approach to cooking and nutrition also addressed my individual needs. My energy level is better overall despite quitting caffeine during the course (I have been a coffee drinker for 10 years) and my overall sense of well being is calmer and real.

I used to drink coffee or eat comfort foods when I felt tired or down, but now, I meditate or rest instead. I am so much more confident in the kitchen.

I used to dread cooking but now it can be the best part of my day. I learned so much and loved the hands on cooking classes. I really enjoyed learning about new ingredients I never knew existed. I have learned everything from cutting veggies, storing olive oil to not boiling miso. Now I cook whenever I can.

Needless to say, these classes have changed my life. The group has transformed my eating habits and has given me a lot of confidence in the kitchen. I learned a tremendous amount about nutrition they do not teach you in medical school. I never knew food shopping, cooking and dining at home could be so much fun!"
