Fruition Health

Well today I started my sugar free challenge. January 3, 2010.

Its actually quite interesting because after reading the posts of the other group members I realized that I
don't actually eat that much sugar. I have what I call the hidden sugar issue.
I always knew that was the case but now it's even more apparent.

Bread, pasta, crackers, using a pre made sauce or dressing. Reading labels in the last week has been enlightening.
AND OF COURSE THEN THERE WERE THE HOLIDAYS.
I was glad I sent out this invitation and set the intention BEFORE the holidays.
I really watched my impulses. And if I chose to eat something with sugar it was a real CHOICE.

And i watched myself this holiday season say to myself, "Ya know what I want to wake up feeling good, I'll pass."
That felt great.

So my commitment for this 21 day cycle is really read labels.

Make my own dressings and sauces.
Cut out crackers.
Cook my own food.
Up my vegetable intake and learn more vegetable recipes.
And I am looking forward to ADDING in lots of winter vegetables. The CROWDING OUT METHOD
Have fun with it all.
Practice ahimsa (loving kindness) if I make a different choice (meaning eat something I said I wouldn't) one day
Remember its not about being perfect.

Day one :
ATE:
Cooked rye flakes with cin, butter and yes agave (just a touch) with some sunflower seeds and goji berries.
Lunch was salmon with arugula and millet bread.
Fruit and yogurt (plain) for a snack.
And dinner....not sure yet?

Looking forward to cooking a lamb stew tomorrow in the crockpot.

OH Just got back from my sunday night yoga class.
I love taking yoga on Sunday nights because it sets the tone for the week.

Two things i remembered I wanted to share with the SF challenge members:

THE QUESTION:
who are you being with your relationship to sugar (or food)? We will discuss this
and REMEMBER THE PRACTICE
Just observe what you feel, think, sense when setting the intention to be SUGAR FREE.
Its not a race, you are not better if you make it, this is a way to set an intention for your life!

i am going to do a teleclass about how grains, sugars break down because even though grains break down into sugar they have a different effect on the body then say refined sugar
and part of that is BECAUSE OF THE FIBER
stay tuned

I guess the bottom line is that grains break down into sugar so all grains will do so, including the low glycemic ones, but then where do we get our fiber from? All vegetables?

brooke - hello!
great question about crackers

brown rice crackers are wheat free usually and yes grains break down as sugar in the body and crackers are processed so it would depend on how you are breaking down what fits into your diet and what doesnt
does that make sense?

Hey Darshana! I am Brooke- Wendy's friend from camp. Heard so much about you and am so glad to be part of the 21 day sugar free challenge as I was starting it anyway! Its GREAT to have a support group and a network of people and information. So....I have a CRACKER QUESTION. What about brown rice crackers or rye crisps, would you include those in the "cracker dept"? I am avoiding all processed sugars and white flowers- actually doing a bit of a wheat cleanse as well. So I AM HAVING- grapefruit, apples, oats, eggs, Chix/lamb/fish and LOTS of veggies. Making my own dressings as well. Isn't it amazing where sugar lurks!!! Thanks for the space to do this.
XOXO
Brooke
