The Guest House
By Rumi
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
I LOVE THIS POEM by Rumi
Today many memories surfaced about the times when I had my version of an eating disorder.
I remembered back to the time when I would play games with myself about how long I could go with no food.
Telling and experiencing the story with a friend in my training made me think of the many "vistors" as Rumi puts it that I have seen and experienced when I was going through that period of my life.
I can now say I am grateful for them. For they have been my teachers and my deepest lessons.
I have felt touched today ....touched just because I am human.
On a completely different note
WHAT I ATE
UGH!
Sugar slipped in
I usually get a decaf chai with organic whole milk from the white raven
They gave me a regular with soy milk instead---
I had 3 sips and was like UGH so much sugar.
Then I had a cracker and then checked the ingredients.
No wonder it was so "tasty" and "addictive"--S U G A R
And there was something else but now my mind has blocked it out.
Lesson I learned:
SLOW DOWN....enough to notice
